CITY OF HAGERSTOWN UNVEILS DONUT ALLEY The City of Hagerstown is having an Alley Name Unveiling on July 7, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the formally unnamed alley between First Street and Wilson Blvd. The new name of the alley is DoNut Alley. The unveiling is being done in conjunction with the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Krumpe’s Do-Nuts in this location adjacent to the alley. The Krumpe Family has been making do-nuts since 1934, and they now have their fourth generation working in the business, as well as, 22 employees. “We have made over 100 million donuts since our business was adjacent to the alley, and we have been featured in many publications and news articles,” stated Fred Krumpe, a co-owner of the business along with Rudolph Krumpe. On July 7, 2010, the alley will be closed to all traffic between First Street and Wilson Blvd. The alley will be closed to vehicles from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; however, pedestrians will be able to walk through the alley and reach the Krumpe's store entrance. Local traffic will be forced to detour around the closure using other City streets and alleys. “We are so excited to unveil the new name of the alley,” stated Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II. “However, we are even more proud and honored to be the home of Krumpe’s Do-Nut Shop who has been in business adjacent to this alley for over 60 years.
