The Hagerstown Municipal Band will return to weekly concerts in City Park beginning Sunday, June 13th and succeeding Sunday evenings through August 22nd. Concerts begin at 7:00 this year! This is a change from the past when they began at 7:30. Concerts are free and open to the public. Bench seating is available but plenty of space exists for folding chairs.
“There are a few changes this year” according to Chris Stockslager, Band President, and Lynn Lerew, Director. “Traditionally we only canceled in the event of rain immediately before the concert. That will continue but if we are not able to rehearse Monday and Thursday evenings because of rain, the concert will be cancelled in advance.” Both emphasized that everyone should check the band’s website weekly at www.hagerstownband.org or its Facebook page for more information and before coming to the Park to ensure the concert is still on. All cancellation announcements will be posted on those sites.
“Last summer was the first time that the band did not play in City Park. We hope that the 107th season of the band will go forward” said Stockslager. “Our players are anxious to perform” said Lerew. “We hope to see a lot of familiar and new faces in the audience this summer.”
Those attending are encouraged to practice social distancing and to wear masks as directed by the Governor of Maryland and recommended by the CDC.
All concerts are sponsored by the City of Hagerstown. The first concert June 13 will begin with the traditional Elk’s Lodge Ceremony in honor of Flag Day.
