  Live Homework Help tutoring service available to students

Free online help from real tutors is now available through the library for grades K-12, college freshmen, and adult learners. The Tutor.com Live Homework Help service is available from 3:00 - 10:00pm every day in English or Spanish.

Students with a Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Libraries card may connect one-on-one with a real tutor in the subject areas of math, science, social studies, English and/or writing. Simply click on the Live Homework Help link on the library’s ready reference webpage (listed under “Educational Pursuits” at http://martin.lib.wv.us, and enter your library card number to use the service. A tutor will connect with you as soon as one becomes available. The service is also accessible to library card holders remotely through their home and laptop computers.

Sunday, November 16 & Thursday, November 20

 

A political and literary satire, The Uncommon Reader pokes fun at the British monarchy while revealing the lasting power of literature. Celebrated English writer, Alan Bennett uses a different slant to humanize the British court.

As she happens upon a mobile library parked near Buckingham Palace, the Queen discovers the joy of reading which seriously alarms the palace staff leading to surprising and hilarious consequences for the country at large.

Book discussion groups meet Sunday, November 16th, at 2:00 and again Thursday, November 20 at 11:30. Books are available at the main desk of the library. Call Pam at 304.2687.8933 with questions. There will be no book discussions in December.

Friday, November 21st The Martinsburg Public Library celebrates the start of the holiday season with its Cookie Cutter Reception

5:30pm -7:30pm.

This annual event features cookies baked by the staff of the Martinsburg Public Library. Members of the staff and of the Friends of Martinsburg Public Library host the reception. Guests are invited to select a cookie cutter from the cookie cutter tree while the supply lasts. One cookie cutter per person, please.

At 6:00 guests are invited to attend the opening of the Snowflake Festival including the tree lighting festivities on the library's plaza sponsored by Main Street Martinsburg.

While in the library, venture to all three floors of the library to view the wonderful holiday decorations thanks to the area garden clubs.

This event is free open to the public.

All Martinsburg – Berkeley County Public Libraries will be closed November 27 and 28 for Thanksgiving. All libraries will resume regular hours over the weekend.

Now through December 1st

The Friends of Hedgesville Public Library are raffling a handcrafted wall hanging designed by Carol Jones December 1st. See this wall hanging on display at Naylor Memorial Library and later in the month at the Martinsburg Public Library.

Tickets are being sold for $1 each or six tickets for $5. Proceeds will benefit the building fund for the new library. To purchase tickets, visit Naylor Memorial Library or contact a Friend of the Hedgesville Public Library.
