SHEPHERDSTOWN ARTS AND HUMANITIES WEEKEND The historic town of Shepherdstown, WV, will celebrate an "Arts and Humanities Weekend" from Thursday, July 29 through Sunday, August 1. Events will include a wide variety of exhibitions by local artists, with many of the artists on hand to discuss their work. There will also be musical performances, guided walking tours of the town, and more. The Shepherdstown museum will be open both Saturday and Sunday, and in addition to its regular exhibits it will feature a special presentation about the unique role George Washington and his family played in the area's history. This will also be the last weekend of this year's Contemporary American Theater Festival, and the festival will be offering many theatrical performances and other events as well. To provide a special treat for children, actors from the theater festival will conduct readings from children's books on Saturday and Sunday mornings. All events except the theater festival's theatrical performances will be free. In between events, visitors can browse the town's many colorful shops and dine in its many fine restaurants. There will be plenty of free parking throughout the period in the Shepherd University parking lots right next to downtown. All downtown parking will be free on Saturday and Sunday.
