About Us

Proudly owned and operated by the Staub family since 1972

Hagerstown Broadcasting Company was originally purchased by John T. Staub in 1972. He poured his heart and soul into the business and was delighted to share his treasured gift with the listening area. He passed his knowledge and love for radio along to his family and now they are proud to continue the business he created.

WJEJ became the 5th radio station in the state of Maryland when it went on the air Oct. 29, 1932.  It was a bold venture to undertake during the Great Depression. During WWII, WJEJ was the only station in Hagerstown.  The station provided news of the war effort and musical entertainment.

In this new millennium, WJEJ 1240 AM continues a format of family oriented eclectic music as well as local news, weather, sports and the CBS radio network.  WJEJ provides “Classic Radio” for the tri-state area.
